$2.8 Million Koenigsegg Jesko First Test-Driven by Christian Von Koenigsegg— the Story of His New Targeted Fastest Car in the Making

Christian von Koenigsegg drove the $2.8 million worth Koenigsegg Jesko for the first time as part of a test drive in mid-December. The current fastest car in the world (for a production vehicle) is the Koenigsegg Agera RS at an official speed record of 277.87 mph (although many contest it to be 284.55 mph, as shown in the car's speedometer itself). But there's still another car in the making that could possibly snatch the title from the Agera RS, but if it does, it won't go anywhere out of Koenigsegg Automotive AB. Koenigsegg Jesko is still in the making.

There aren't many cars that are tagged as Ultimate in the high-speed racing game, Asphalt 8, and Koenigsegg Jesko is certainly one of them despite not even being commercially produced. To be fair, the Ultimate status for a car was only recently introduced to the game. Still, both the Agera RS and Jesko made it.

The $100 million worth Christian von Koenigsegg, founder and CEO of the company, has been breaking records after records with his cars while producing in such a small number every time. This time, with the production of Koenigsegg Jesko, he is promising another record for top speed as he challenges himself to make the hypercar reach 300 mph for the first time in the history of cars. And no, it's not for racing, he rarely makes the cars for that.

The title for the fastest car in the world would obviously entail hyping the previous record-holder for better efficiency. The target here is similar. The Jesko is built around a longer chassis, re-designed carbon fiber chassis with more legroom, headroom and greater visibility, and inherits the mantle left by the Agera RS. It also uses a V8 engine, but it is a hidden heavily upgraded twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 that produces 1,280 horsepower (955 kW) on gasoline or 1,600 hp (1,193 kW) from E85.

It also includes a nine-speed gearbox with seven clutches (the Koenigsegg Light Speed Transmission or LST) and offers over 1000 kg (~3000 lbs) downforce with Koenigsegg's revolutionary Triplex suspension at front and rear. As the man himself, with a crack team of intellectuals, design the components under the company's name, so were the parts for this car. The V8 is custom-designed, making the original Ford V8 better. The promise of the man himself is that it will be the world's first road-legal 300 mph car (over 480 kmph). The only question is, is the world ready to embrace this history in the making?

If You Plan to Buy a Koenigsegg Jesko, No Can Do

The commercial production of the Koenigsegg Jesko is set to begin in early 2020 taking a target of one car per week. There will only be 125 of these built, limited like every Koenigseggs but still the highest number he's ever planned. However, if you remotely even have a wish to buy the car, you're out of luck.

Koenigsegg presented his new hypercar Jesko at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show earlier in May with his wife, Halldora von Koenigsegg, and father, Jesko von Koenigsegg (yeah, the car's named after him). He took the 125 build slots with him when he went to unveil it for the first time. But there were not a full 125 slots left when he unveiled it. 83 of the megacar's slots were already booked before it was shown publicly for the first time. The other 42 slots, sold within 5 days of the unveiling. There are some rich people out there.

The slots were all sold for around $3 million a pop; $2.8 million to be (almost) exact. The more amazing part of it was that he'd already received down-payments from dealers and customers to go ahead and make this wonderful beast. In order to meet the demands of a varying driving side of different countries, the company will produce Jesko with a right as well as a left-sided driver seat, with minimum two right-handed ones gone to Australia for about $6.5 million. Those were the very first sale of the build slots in November 2017.
