According to Capt. Chris Najomo, the Acting Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, airlines that cause delay or flight cancellations will be required to provide a 25% rebate on the next flight for affected travelers starting from January 2024.
This decision was announced during a meeting with aviation stakeholders in Lagos. Najomo also mentioned other upcoming policies aimed at improving consumer protection and airport certification within the aviation industry.

The airlines have been informed about the directive, with the aim of enhancing efficiency in an industry that is currently facing challenges leading to dissatisfaction among travelers.
Najomo acknowledged that some flight delays or cancellations may be due to factors beyond the control of the airlines, but emphasized the need for better planning and operational management.
He also discussed the need for state-owned airports to be managed by the state governments for a period of five years before being handed over to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). According to him, out of the 32 airports in the country, only about six are economically viable.
He highlighted the issue of substantial funds being expended on unviable airport projects, emphasizing that airports should be designed to generate economic returns and contribute to the overall economic development of the country.
