Air conditioning tune-ups provide a valuable service to homeowners. They restore much of the AC unit’s lost efficiency and capacity. Additionally, tune-ups improve reliability by catching problems before they lead to failures. However, the energy efficiency improvements rarely cover the cost of an annual tune-up.

Do you really need AC tune up?

You’ve probably heard that your air conditioner needs to be maintained at least once a year. However, (and this may come as a shock coming from an HVAC contractor) annual air conditioner maintenance isn’t absolutely necessary (if you’re a risk taker.)

What does an AC tune up include?

Maintain all moving parts. Measure and fine-tune the refrigerant charge, if needed. Examine and clean the condenser and evaporator coils. Inspect the condensate drain and apply biocide treatment, if required.
