Are Blackbirds Monogamous

Red-winged blackbirds practice polygamy. Actually, it’s called polygyny when it’s the males who are mating with more than one female. Do blackbirds mate for life?

Many blackbirds mate for life, providing they have at least one successful brood. As many as 60% of nests might fail due to predation; this results in a minority of birds moving on to seek a new partner.

Do male blackbirds live together?

Blackbirds are unsociable and territorial. They prefer to be alone rather than in big groups, and during the first year of its life a male blackbird will develop its own territory.
