Are Fte and Headcount?

There are two basic ways that we count the number of employees. When we use headcount, each individual person counts as one employee whether their appointment is full time or part time. When we use "FTE," we are using the "Full Time Equivalent."

Is headcount same as FTE?

Headcount refers to the total number of employees working in a company, including both part-time and full-time employees. With headcount, each individual counts as “one,” regardless of the number of hours worked. The full-time equivalent or FTE definition refers to the number of hours considered full-time.

How do you calculate headcount FTE?

Combine the hours worked by full-time and part-time employees. This is the total number of hours worked by all the employees. Divide the total hours worked by the number of full-time hours. This will determine the FTE of the company for a particular period.
