Are Lop Eared Rabbits Born with Floppy Ears?

A common type of lop is the mini-lop, but there are also Holland lops and other kinds of lops. If a rabbit with any lop genes in its genotype was bred into the lines of your rabbits, that could explain a floppy ear. If the rabbits are very young, you may find that more bunnies develop floppy ears as they grow older.

Do all lops have floppy ears?

Unlike the erect ear of the majority of domestic rabbit breeds, lop breeds have ears loosely drooping, with the opening of the ear facing the skull. Due to the slightly-raised cartilaginous ear base, the head of many lop rabbits (with the exception of English Lops) has a small bulge, referred to as the crown.

Do mini lop rabbits have floppy ears?

Mini lops are one of the most popular rabbit breeds in the world and with good reason. The miniature lop is adorable, yes, but there's more to it than floppy ears and a diminutive size.
