Are Macs Big Endian?

This used to be the bane of anyone migrating software across different processor architectures: the order in which each stores bytes in memory and files. Classic Macs use Motorola 68K processors, which are 'big-endian'.

Does Mac use little endian?

Nope. Aside from certain supercomputers (which, let's face it, us lay-folk will never have to deal with) there is still one major area where big-endian order is used: network protocols, particularly: the Internet Protocol (as in: "IP" of TCP/IP).

Do computers use big-endian or little endian?

The endianness convention consists of two different ways to decides the ordering of bytes when transferring a word data between register and memory. The first one is called Big-endian and the second one is called Little-endian. Intel x86 processor is little-endian, so most personal computers are little-endian.
