Are all Pokemon regions in the same world?

Pokémon regions historically reflect real-life locations. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are all based on regions in Japan (the IRL Kanto, Kansai, Kyūshū, and Hokkaido, respectively). Unova, meanwhile, is based on the United States, with a particular focus on New York City, Kalos on France, and Alola on Hawaii.

Are all Pokemon regions Islands?

Both anime-exclusive regions are archipelagoes. Before Generation VIII, each core series region had the letter ‘o’ present in its English name (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and Alola). The anime-exclusive regions also have the letter present (Orange Archipelago and Decolore Islands).
