Are Sliced Almonds Blanched?

Whole sweet almonds are blanched to remove their brown papery skins and then the nuts are sliced.

Are all slivered almonds blanched?

While they are still warm, the skins are removed before the almonds are cut into either slivers or slices. Some sliced almonds are available with a thin edge of the skin still attached. Slivered almonds are always blanched and have their skins removed before cutting.

Do you need to blanch sliced almonds?

However, raw almonds (whole almonds with the skins on) were easy to find. Another important reason to blanch your own almonds is freshness. Almonds go rancid before too long and can develop a funky smell. Whole almonds stay fresh longer than sliced or slivered almonds.
