Are the Awoken Humans

The Awoken are a humanoid race sharing common ancestry with Earth humans. They descend from the crew and passengers of the Yang Liwei, a colony ship that disappeared in a spacetime anomaly during the Collapse.

Was Mara the first Awoken?

Mara confessed to Sjur in privacy that she had been the first Awoken, and had denied them the chance to become gods when they first self-created on Distributary, and was therefore responsible for all the mortal suffering the Awoken had ever experienced past that point.

Do Awoken reproduce?

There is nothing to indicate they can’t. Awoken, even those who aren’t Guardians, are also Light based people and more so then us. Yet they are stated as having children in the grimoire. Admittedly it could be due to the SIVA in them, replicate and all that.
