Are There Nerves in Your Anus

The muscles and nerves around your rectum and anus need to work together for your bowels to work correctly. Nerves control the muscles of the rectum. They signal when the rectum is full. Damage to these nerves can interfere with bowel control.

How sensitive is the anus?

The anal canal is extremely sensitive to touch from the anal verge to a level between 0.25 and 0.75 cm above the anal valves. Although localization of the stimulus around the circumference of the canal cannot be made, the approximate level of the stimulus can be gauged by the subject.

Why is the butt hole so sensitive?

The skin around the rectum is very sensitive. Friction from sexual activity involving the anus can cause small tears, irritation, swelling, or bleeding. This is partly because the anus does not produce its own lubrication.
