Bo Burnham, a comedian, singer, actor, and director announced his upcoming special Inside teaser on April 28th, 2021 on Instagram. He stated in the post that the special was shot by himself during the lockdown without the assistance of any crew. He officially announced the release date of his special on May 22nd, 2021, via Instagram post, after a month of teasing the news.
After five years, the first special is released.
Bo Burnham, After the release of his last special, Make Happy, in 2016, the comedian decided to take a break from a stand-up comedy. He stated in an interview in 2018 that he took a break because he struggled with anxiety and had panic attacks on stage on occasion. Burnham also says that directing the 2018 film Eighth Grade helped him overcome his anxiety.

Burnham goes on to say:
“I realized that my level of immersion in my experience was not unique to me…That’s why I wanted to make a film about someone who isn’t a 27-year-old male comedian who is performing, seeking an audience, and desiring all of those things.”
As a result, he’s back after five years with his new Netflix special, Inside, which he wrote, directed, filmed, and performed during the lockdown. Bo posted a short clip from his new special with the caption:
“hi. I came up with a new special. It was shot over the course of a year by me alone, without a crew or an audience. It’s almost complete. I really hope you enjoy it.”The special was released on May 30th, 2021, and is now available on Netflix for streaming.
