How do you put a border on a Microsoft Word document? Follow these steps to add a frame to your Microsoft Word document. Open Microsoft Word. Click the Design tab. On the Page Layout tab, select Margins. In the Borders and Padding window (shown below), click the Page Borders tab. Select Margin if you want a square border around the page.
