Professional Background

Dr. Bryant Staples is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Kansas Health System, where he works as a multi-specialty anesthesiologist at the main hospital and ambulatory surgical centers, regularly creates/runs the daily schedule for around 150 providers, and participates on the regional anesthesia and PACU teams.
Since 2016, he has served as a Physician Informatician for the health system (including its ambulatory surgical centers, and hospitals in Great Bend and Hays), directing optimizations in the electronic record, spearheading functionalities to increase patient safety, improve billing/compliance, and simplify workflows. As blood bank liaison since 2020, he has worked to simplify blood ordering and documentation hospital-wide and help ensure safe and quick blood delivery. Working in an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and administrators, he helped design and implement the hospital’s Difficult Airway response team in 2018 and continues to serve on the steering committee.
Dr. Staples research interests relate to operations performance and efficiencies, quality improvement, and patient safety.
