Over time, lint and any excess fabric can begin building up within the dryer vent. When there’s no clear path for air and moisture to flow through, the moisture can condense — resulting in water leak. Routine maintenance of your dryer should include the removal of any buildup within the vent via a long-handled brush.
How do you know if your dryer vent is leaking?
If your hand comes back linty, that’s a sign that linty dryer exhaust is being released into the room. If you clean a surface and it’s linty after the next time you run the dryer, then your dryer is leaking exhaust for sure. Your duct may be ripped, open, or not installed at all.
Can dryer vents get rain?
Water can get into a Dryer Vent from outside of the house when rain enters. Typically this happens when the outside protective cover leaks or is not properly sealed to the side of the dryer vent penetration. Water can also enter a Dryer Vent if under the house and there is a flooding condition.
