Can Chorus Fruit Save You from the Void?

Chorus Fruit is pretty useless. You can't predict where you'll be teleported when you eat it. The only time when it may actually be useful, is when you get chased by another player in PvP.

Can chorus fruit teleport you in the air?

No. You can only go 32 blocks up, but 256 blocks down. This is because it choosed a block up to 32 blocks up or down from you and then checks from that block downwards for a block it can place you on. (So you won't get teleported to mid air.)

Can chorus fruit save you from lava?

Or just drink a fire resistance potion because it takes the same amount of time to eat, is obtainable way before chorus fruit is, and completely protects you from the lava and the resulting afterburn no matter how big the pool of lava is.
