Can Field Corn Pollinate Sweet Corn?

All corn is wind pollinated, so different varieties can cross. This means that when conditions are right, field corn can cross-pollinate with sweet corn. It's most noticeable with super sweet corn varieties.

Can you make field corn taste like sweet corn?

You will not be able to take field corn seeds and turn them into sweet corn. Field corn is high in starch; alpha-amylase can be used to break down starch into smaller sugar molecules. Sweet corn contains one or more mutations so that the endosperm will accumulate more sugar than it normally would.

What pollinates sweet corn?
