ZIP files are a universal archive commonly used on Windows, macOS, and even Linux systems. You can create a zip archive or unzip files from one with some common Linux terminal commands.
Do you extract a ZIP file?
When you extract files from a zipped folder, a new folder with the same name is created which contains the files. The compressed (zipped) version also remains. Right-click the zipped folder saved to your computer. Choose “Extract All…” (an extraction wizard will begin).
How do I unzip a ZIP file in Ubuntu?
Right click the file and you’ll see the option “extract here”. Select this one. Unlike the unzip command, the extract here options create a folder of the same name as the zipped file and all the content of the zipped files are extracted to this newly created folder.
