Can My Freezer Catch Fire

If the room or garage is very hot, it means the compressor on the refrigerator/freezer could work almost constantly. When the compressor is working, even properly, it gets extremely hot and can cause a fire.

Why did my freezer catch on fire?

The reason fridge explosions happen is usually due to the fridge’s compressor. The compressor, located at the back of most fridges, contains a motor and pump which push a gas refrigerant through the compressor’s coils.

Can freezers explode?

Sometimes, the rear of the fridge can get extremely hot, as the gas that cools down the fridge returns through the compressor and becomes trapped inside. That trapped gas, stuck within the fridge’s compressor, leads to a pressure build up silently—and, eventually, an explosion.
