Can You Make Finings?

Finings can be made from all kinds of things. Isinglass (biofine) is a clearing agent made from the protein called collagen. It is extracted from the swim bladders of fish! Ordinary gelatin is an effective fining agent as it will remove proteins and polyphenols.

What are Finings made of?

Common fining agents include gelatine, isinglass, egg whites, casein, bentonite and carbon. There have been reports of a rise in non-animal-derived agents in recent years. However, different agents can be used for specific purposes.

How do you make beer Finings?

Instructions: Dissolve sachet contents into half a cup of luke warm water (not hot water). Stir until completely dissolved. Add this solution to your beer after fermentation. Allow to settle for two days.
