The mucus plug can be transparent, yellowish, a little pink, or slightly blood-colored. It may be thick and sticky, or stringy. You might not notice when the mucus plug comes out because you may be used to seeing heavy vaginal discharge during pregnancy.
How do you tell if it's your mucus plug or discharge?
Increased vaginal discharge is normal in pregnancy. Vaginal discharge is usually thin and light yellow or white in color. Discharge from the mucus plug is thicker, more jelly-like and there is more of it. It can also be tinged with red, brown or pink blood.
Does yellow discharge mean labor is near?
If you're close to delivery day, your water may have broken. In either case, the yellow discharge will be very light yellow (or clear with a yellowish tint), thin or watery, and come out as a trickle or gush.
