There are 8 character classes (archetypes) in Ashes of Creation: Tank, Fighter, Rogue, Ranger, Mage, Cleric, Summoner, Bard. You can select one of the available character classes at the beginning of the game. Later during the game you can add a second character class to it. This creates a total of 64 combinations of classes, with different abilities.

Tank
A tank's job is to control a fight, to help party mitigate incoming damage, and to dictate who is getting hit. They can take an unconscionable amount of punishment, and woe to those who ignore their commands.
Tank Skills
Longsword Combo
Target an enemy and use your Sword and shield to strike with multiple blows. Dealing damage and powering up your focus with this weapon attack.
Hatred
Target an enemy to force your enemy to target you for 5 seconds, while also increases his hate and the hate of your enemies around him.
Bulwark
Summon a Wall and cause your enemies to take damage and become knocked down if they contact the Wall.
Impale
Target an enemy and launch a spear to damage and pull the enemy into melee range.
Shield Might
Swing your shield in a forward arc, dealing damage and knocking down all enemies in melee range.
