Charlie Day

Charlie Day is an American television, film, and voice actor, as well as a producer, screenwriter, and director. His best-known role is the character Charlie Kelly on the sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He has appeared in the black comedies Horrible Bosses and Horrible Bosses 2, as well as the sci-fi films Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim: Uprising. He has voiced characters in the animated films Monsters University and The Lego Movie. He has served as a producer and screenwriter on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Cool Kids, Mythic Quest, Fist Fight, and El Tonto.

Charles Peckham Day was born on February 9, 1976, in The Bronx, New York. His father, Thomas Charles Day, is a retired music history professor who worked at the Salve Regina University in Newport. His mother, Mary Peckham Day, is a retired piano teacher who worked at The Pennfield School in Portsmouth. He has an older sister named Alice Day. Although he was born in New York City, he spent his childhood living in Middletown, Rhode Island.

Day attended the Portsmouth Abbey School and the Pennfield School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. In 1998, he earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. During his time at college, he studied acting at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. He was also involved with Onstagers, the theatre organization at Merrimack College. He performed at the Huntington Theatre in Boston in the play Dead End.

TV career

Charlie Day made his TV debut in 2000. He played the role of a clerk in an episode of the sitcom Madigan Men. The following year, he appeared in an episode of the drama series Law & Order. He also got a recurring part in the crime drama series Third Watch. In 2003, he took one of the lead roles in the short-lived sitcom Luis. He then appeared in the comedy series Reno 911.

In 2005, Day started working on the sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The show was created by Rob McElhenney and it premiered on August 4, 2005. It aired on FX but moved to FXX in 2013. It is currently on its 14th season, which makes it one of the longest-running sitcoms in TV history. The story depicts a group of friends, called “The Gang”. They run an Irish pub in South Philadelphia, called Paddy’s Pub. They often go against each other and try to hurt each other physically and emotionally.

The story deals with topics such as alcoholism, drug abuse, kidnapping, stalking, and blackmail. Day plays the character of Charlie Kelly. He is a dyslexic substance abuser with frequent emotional outbursts. He does the cleaning and the manual work in the pub, so his friends often call him “Charlie Work”. The other main characters are Dennis Reynolds, Deandra Reynolds, Frank Reynolds, and Ronald McDonald. They are portrayed by Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito, and Rob McElhenney. Apart from acting, Charlie Day has also produced and written many episodes of the show.

Day has appeared in the sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live twice. The first time, he hosted the show and delivered the opening monologue. The second time, he played the role of Congressman Fenton Worthington Carrey. In 2012, he had voice roles in the animated sitcoms Unsupervised and American Dad. In 2014, he starred as British detective Allan Pinkerton in the series Drunk History.

In 2018, he started working on the comedy series The Cool Kids. He was the executive producer and writer of the series, and he also made a guest appearance in one episode. The story depicted a group of senior citizens at the Shady Meadows Retirement Community. In 2019, Fox cancelled the series after the end of its first season. Day is currently producing and writing Mythic Quest. It is a comedy web television series which is set to air on Apple TV.
