Initially, Baumgartner was granted $129K in temporary support but she aimed higher, striving for a sumptuous $248k per month, citing her children’s accustomed lavish lifestyle. The court, however, scaled back her aspirations, allocating her $63k per month instead. Disappointed and disheartened, she ultimately decided to settle outside the court, with details of the settlement shrouded in secrecy, although it is speculated that she received $1.5 million as outlined in the prenuptial agreement, along with some undisclosed fees.

Baumgartner’s legal counsel advised her to “cut bait and run,” after her unrealistic demands were met with resistance. Laura Wasser, representing Costner, stated, “Christine fails to inform the court that her settlement position through June, July, and August was so unrealistic and frankly outrageous, Kevin had no hope she would be more settlement-oriented at the VSC [voluntary settlement conference].”
