Columbus was born on September 19th, 1982, in Kansas, Missouri, United States. He is the son of Janette and Columbus Keith Short. He was raised alongside his two siblings, Chris Staples and John Rancipher.

Short was a talented child. He would entertain his family by impersonating his relatives or simply dancing and making everyone laugh. His mother, Janette, runs a talent agency in Los Angeles.
