Daniel is a dual British and Irish citizen because his father, Cecil Day-Lewis, was born in Ireland. In 1968, Day-Lewis was moved to Sevenoaks School in Kent, where he attended boarding school. He transferred to Bedales in Petersfield, Hampshire, after two years and a growing dislike for the institution. His sister was also a student there. Day-Lewis’ father died of pancreatic cancer in 1972.
