Did Neuromancer Inspired the Matrix?

Those of you who haven't read "Neuromancer," are almost certainly familiar with something the book inspired. For example: The novel heavily influenced the Wachowski siblings' smash-hit 1999 movie "The Matrix," right down to the film's title. ... "The Matrix" is often placed in the cyberpunk genre of fiction.

What inspired The Matrix?

Quite simply, the Wachowskis borrowed significant plot elements and visuals from a book (Neuromancer), an anime (Ghost in the Shell), and a film: Dark City. These three properties have such a significant influence on The Matrix, that they really could not be separated.

What was Neuromancer inspired by?
