In November 2012, after almost two years of dating, which included helicopter rides and watching a movie together in a rented stadium, the pair had their first split. There were rumors that the causes of separation included trust issues and the young age of couples.

In April 2013, Selena debuted her song Come & Get It, which was, according to fans, clearly about Justin. A few days later, Bieber posted and then deleted a photo of Selena on Instagram. At the end of the year, days before Christmas, Justin confirmed that he and Selena were not talking. However, in the same interview, Bieber also said that he still loves Selena.

The following year was very stressful for Jelena fans. Justin got arrested for driving drunk and was accused of vandalism, while Selena checked into rehab for Lupus. Most of the fans thought that the rehab was related to drugs and Bieber. It was evident that they were not dating.
