Did Stradivarius Make Cellos?

Stradivari also made harps, guitars, violas, and cellos--more than 1,100 instruments in all, by current estimate. About 650 of these instruments survive today.

How many Stradivarius cellos are left?

That's a difficult question to answer. For one, they are rare. Only about 650 surviving Stradivarius violins exist, and many of them are in the hands of private collectors, safely hidden from public view. There are even fewer cellos, about 55, and about 12 violas.

Who owns a Stradivarius cello?

Stradivarius cellos are owned by museums, institutions, musicians and private collectors worldwide. Considered by many to be the best cello ever made, the 1701 Servais is owned by the National Museum of American History. It is currently given on loan to Dutch cellist Anner Bylsma.
