Generally speaking the number of eggs expected from follicles seen on ultrasound scan is approximately 80-90%. It is important to remember that there will never be more than one egg per follicle.

Empty follicle syndrome (EFS), although rare, is a disappointing condition in which no oocytes are retrieved from mature follicle after ovulation induction in in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles.
