Do Blue Whales Ever Die

Yes, whales die of old age. Whales live a lot longer than most mammals, but each species of whale lives for a different amount of time. Some of them even have longer lifespans than humans.

Can sharks kill a blue whale?

The calf probably drowned from exhaustion, its carcass never recovered – it’s not clear if the sharks ate it in the end. This is the first time any shark has been directly documented attacking a whale. Other species, such as tiger sharks, are known to be partial to whale meat, but they get it by scavenging.

Can whales drown themselves?

Whales do not purposely drown themselves. However, if they get caught in a net and are unable to surface, they will drown. Beached whales may face a similar predicament. As tides rise, water may cover and enter the whale’s blowhole, causing it to drown before the water becomes deep enough for it to swim away.
