Do Chillies Need Full Sun

Chili peppers grow nicely in full sun. They will grow in partial shade, but they won’t be as productive. A sunny spot is best. I have very successfully grown many varieties of chili peppers under my backyard deck, which is about 12 feet high.

Can chillies grow in shade?

Chillies also don’t mind humidity as much as sweet peppers or tomatoes do. Most people will need to grow chillis in full sun. In the hottest, sunniest regions chillies still grow well with a bit of shade. Especially afternoon shade can even be beneficial.

How much sun does a chili plant need?

Chillies thrive in full sun, and although they will grow in semi-shade they won’t produce as many fruits, so make sure you position your pot in a sunny area away from strong winds.
