Do Leaders Need to Be Likeable

While being likeable isn’t a prerequisite to be a leader, it does goes a long way. If you want to get the best out of your employees, you can’t rule out the importance of being liked and, importantly being trusted. Leaders who are likeable inspire their employees to work hard every day and innovate when they need to.

Should a great leader be feared or liked? The answer is that it doesn’t really matter. While a positive relationship is paramount to effective leadership it is important to remember that you won’t always be liked and you certainly won’t be able to be everyone’s best friend.

In other words, likability. Likable people possess the admirable traits of politeness, respectfulness, and listening skills.
