Do Muslims Smoke?

A tobacco fatwa is a fatwa (Islamic legal pronouncement) that prohibits the usage of tobacco by Muslims. Arab Muslims tend to prohibit smoking (despite Saudi Arabia ranking 23rd in the world for the percentage of its population that smokes) and, in South Asia, smoking tends to be considered lawful but discouraged.

What Islam says about smoking?

The findings from the review showed that the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah clearly prohibiting the use of tobacco by the Muslims. Jumhur Ulama had also made a stand that the use of tobacco by the Muslim is prohibited. Hence smoking and all other form of tobacco use are prohibited in Islam.

Can Muslims drink alcohol and smoke?

The response was, tobacco was unknown until many centuries after Islam was introduced and was not mentioned in the Qur'an, but alcohol was known and is explicitly forbidden. The consensus of Islamic scholars is that tobacco and other harmful drugs are forbidden by analogy.
