Do Pomegranate Seeds Ferment?

"POM POMS Fresh Arils contain only our fresh fruit with no preservatives. Fermentation is a natural process that happens to fresh fruit over time, and on occasion, the fruit ferments faster than normal."

Is it safe to eat pomegranate seeds that smell like alcohol?

Have the seeds gone bad or spoiled? Pomegranate seeds are bad if they've started to decay - they'll turn brown and mushy. They are also bad if they smell like nail polish remover (acetone), or alcohol, a result from yeasts breaking down sugars from the fruit.

How can you tell when pomegranate seeds go bad?

Check for white mould on the seeds. The mould is probably the easiest sign of a bad pomegranate. Feel the outside of the pomegranate for mushy spots. These spots can be brown but because of the dark colour of a pomegranate, you might not be able to see them.
