In January 2017, it was announced that the British multi national supermarket retailer Tesco had agreed to purchase the company for £3.7 billion. It was confirmed on 5 March 2018 that Tesco had completed its acquisition of Booker.
Is Tesco part of Booker?
The merged has included the rollout of more than 200 bulk buy areas across Tesco stores selling Booker products, as well as Tesco fulfilling more than 25 Booker sites with chilled products. A wider rollout of Tesco own-label products across Booker stores has not moved as quickly as some expected.
Why did Tesco acquire Booker?
A key reason for the deal was to improve Tesco's access to the chain restaurants market in which Booker, led by Charles Wilson, has enjoyed strong growth as a supplier.
