Doctoral Student Funding

To address the funding needs of our doctoral students, the Program works with students individually to assess their employment situation and financial need. Population Health doctoral students are enrolled full-time and are funded either through half-time employment in the healthcare or related field, through assistantships in the private sector, or through departmental assistantships.

 Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs)

• Awarded annually; renewable on an annual basis contingent upon funding availability and academic progress
• .50 FTE position
• Taxable salary of approximately $923.00 per bi-weekly pay period (up to a maximum of 26 per year)
• Full Tuition waiver
• Health insurance discount (KUMC plan)
• Requires continuous enrollment of 6 hour per semester (fall and spring) and 3 hrs summer

Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs)

• Awarded annually; renewable on a per semester basis contingent upon funding availability and academic progress
• .50 FTE position
• Taxable salary of approximately $923.00 per bi-weekly pay period (up to a maximum of 26 per year)
• Tuition charged at in-state rate
• Health insurance discount (KUMC plan)
• Requires enrollment of 6 hour per semester (fall and spring) and 3 hrs summer
