One of the ways that cancer cells are different to normal cells is that it is easier for cancer cells to move about. So one of the ways that cancers spread into nearby tissues is by the cells directly moving.

Do malignant tumors move around?

Some tumors are benign, which means they form in only one spot without spreading to surrounding tissue. Malignant tumors are cancerous and can spread to nearby tissue. As cancerous tumors grow, cancer cells can break off and travel throughout the body, forming new tumors.

Do benign tumors move?

Dr. Alexandra Gangi: Like all tumors, a benign tumor is a mass of abnormal cells. But unlike malignant (cancerous) tumors, they can't move into neighboring tissue or spread to other parts of the body. Sometimes they're surrounded by a protective sac that makes them easy to remove.
