Does Accoya Need to Be Painted?

Accoya® wood may be finished with semi-and non-film forming paint systems such as stains and oils. Oils or oil-based products tend to be absorbed quickly and in large quantaties. To minimize absorption, let the first coat dry before applying additional coats.

Is Accoya paintable?

Accoya has a pH range of 4-5.5. Sealers must be used effectively on all end grain throughout the joinery, with a product that is compatible with the paint system and approved by the coating manufacturer. COATINGS ARE APPLIED TO ACCOYA LARGELY FOR AESTHETIC REASONS.

Can Accoya be left untreated?

It is highly resistant to decay and offers a high level of durability. If it is left untreated it will weather naturally to a dark grey colour; alternatively, it can be prefinished and stained before installation to help protect the materials natural colour.
