Does Borax Work Outside

You can use borax to treat both outdoor and indoor ant infestations. Do not apply it directly to your lawn otherwise, it can damage your plants.

How long does it take borax to kill an ant colony?

The ants consume large quantities of the bait and then return to the nest and share it with the rest of the colony. This process can take from just a couple days to several weeks, depending on the size of the colony. Each ant that consumes the bait will die within 24 – 48 hours.

Do ants take borax back to the nest?

Borax is toxic to ants. When they ingest it, it disrupts their digestive systems, eventually causing death. However, they don’t die immediately — the borax acts slowly enough to allow the worker ants to carry it back to the colony, where other ants ingest it and die.
