Does Casein Cause Allergy

If a glass of milk or a slice of pizza causes swollen lips, hives, or other significant symptoms, you may have an allergy to casein, a protein in milk. Another milk protein associated with food allergies is whey. Some people are allergic to both casein and whey.

Is casein considered dairy?

FDA regulations specifically allow the use of caseinates (and casein is one of the major milk allergens) in non-dairy products. However, the term, caseinate, will appear in the ingredient statement and must be followed by a parenthetical explanation, such as (a milk derivative).

Can casein allergy be cured?

Even though milk allergy treatment is not a cure, it can certainly lessen the impact of consuming milk and milk products. As stated above, both children and adults can suffer from milk allergies. And while it may be more prevalent in children, there is no “age range” immunity.
