Does Corneal Infiltrate Stain?

Infiltrates may be non-staining or have early overlying staining, and are usually present where the eyelid margin intersects the corneal surface (i.e., at the 2 to 10 o'clock and 4 to 8 o'clock areas).

Do infiltrates stain with fluorescein?

In CLPU the infiltrate will be circular, <1mm in diameter. In MK the infiltrate may be irregular, >1mm diameter. Both stain with sodium fluorescein, which will penetrate the stroma.

How long do corneal infiltrates take to heal?

The size of the infiltrate is important. If a patient comes into your office with a 1-day history of an infiltrate and it is small in size, we usually know it will do well and heal within a 5- to 7-day time period.
