Eye Exam 101 An eye exam is a great way to get a better sense of your vision and overall health. In some states our Optical Centers inside CVS Pharmacy® are made up of doctors of optometry who perform comprehensive eye exams and vision tests.

Are vision exams free?

Alberta. The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan provides free eye exams for those under 18 years old and over 65. There is an exception however, for people in the age range of 19-65.

Is a vision test the same as an eye exam?

One of the most significant differences between vision tests and eye exams is the type of person who runs each one. Eye exams must be performed by a qualified eye doctor, such as an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. Conversely, vision tests can be run by practically anybody since they rely on automated equipment.
