Every dishwasher uses hot water to clean the dishes. Even if you turn down the heat, warm water is still essential for breaking down food and minimizing the water residue left behind. The hotter the water, the better it cleans. However, sometimes a dishwasher may become unable to use hot water.
Can I run my dishwasher with cold water?
As long as you have water in that hot water line whether it is cold or hot, you should be able to run your dishwasher. There is a heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher.
Do modern dishwashers heat their own water?
All dishwashers can run without hot water, but we only advise doing so with dishwashers that heat their own water. Check your manual to see whether or not your dishwasher can be run with cold water. A dishwasher that doesn’t heat its own water can also run with cold water, but it’s not advised.
