Does Ice Dissolve or Melt

Melting is a pure-component equilibrium between the solid phase and liquid phase of the same component, while dissolution/dissolving involves a solid and a solvent, which is a different chemical compounds. Thus, Ice does not dissolve in water, intact it melts in water.

What melts faster ice or water?

Explanation for why an ice cube melts faster in freshwater. Meanwhile in the saltwater, the cold freshwater from the ice cube floats on top of the saltwater. Thus the ice cube sits in a pool of cold water, blocking the heat from the saltwater (ambient temperature) from getting to the ice cube.

Does ice actually melt?

Ice melts due to the chemical properties of water. There are more hydrogen bonds between the molecules of ice than in water. Ice begins to melt when its temperature exceeds 0 degrees Celsius and hydrogen bonds between water molecules break.
