Does Interpupillary Distance Change with Age?

Influence of age on interpupillary distance
A decrease of 0.6 mm and 0.4 mm (Viktorin's and PD-5, respectively) occurred between the adults (26–40 years) and older adults (41–67 years).

Does interpupillary distance change?

Pupillary distance is measured in millimetres, and is sometimes expressed as 'PD' on your prescription. Your pupillary distance can change during childhood and adolescence, but will almost certainly remain the same once you reach adulthood. The average pupillary distance for adults is between 50 and 70mm.

Does IPD increase with age?

The mean value of IPD was 60.5±2.4 cm and it showed a significant increase from 5.1 cm in 5-year olds to 6.3 cm in adults over 20. In adulthood IPD remains the same, i.e. 6.3 cm. It is evident that the absolute value of IPD increases with age, at least until the third decade of life.
