Does Primer Make Wood Waterproof

Water can permeate into the wood and cause warping, mildew, or dry rot. Primer improves the waterproofing of the finish.

Does primer seal wood?

Primer, having high-solids content, helps fill in the wood grain and creates a smooth surface for the finish coat. Like the raw drywall, unfinished woods tend to really soak up paint, and primer helps seal the surface to prevent this from happening.

Is primer waterproof?

Primer is not waterproof. No paint is waterproof. All paint has an element of pourosity to it. If left enough then the surface of the primer will break down quicker as it’s not got a reflective coating.
