Does Switching off the Geyser Damage It

According to most professionals, including Eskom’s Geyser Fact Sheet, turning off your geyser will not save much electricity. For 24 hours after your geyser is switched off, only 10°C of the heat is lost. This is called a ‘standing loss’ and is a quality standard set by the SABS.

Is it necessary to switch off geyser?

As per research and Eskom’s Geyser Fact Sheet, turning off the geyser doesn’t make any difference to the levels of energy usage. The heat loss after 24 hours of turning off the geyser amounts up to 10°C (called ‘standing loss’). The SABS has set this amount as quality standard.

What happens if we don't switch off geyser?

Relax, we know you got yourself into a bit of predicament, but don’t stress over it, basically, nothing will happen to the geyser, all thanks to the thermostat. As, once the desired temperature is reached and if the geyser is still on, the thermostat will switch off the geyser automatically.
