Cameron’s birth place is in Seattle, Washington. She was named as Chloe Celeste Hosterman at that time. Her father’s name is Philip Alan Hosterman and mother is Bonnie Wallace. Her early days were spent at Bainbridge Island, Washington. Claire Hosterman is her older sister. Her parents got divorced. She lost her father in 2011 at the age of fifteen. She went to ‘Sakai Intermediate School’.

Cameron was very passionate about acting and singing since her childhood. ‘The Girl and the Dreamcatcher’ a band was formed by Dove Cameron and her former boyfriend Ryan McCartan. First, song ‘Written in the Stars’ was released in 2015. The second and third singles were released in 2016, ‘Glowing in the Dark’ and ‘Someone You Like’. The first EP named ‘Negatives’ was released in 2016. But as their relationship ended in 2016, the band was no more.
She has done few soundtrack albums. She did Liv and Maddie, Descendants and Descendants 2. Descendants 3 will release in 2019. All these are for different series of Walt Disney Channel. In 2018, she signed a contract with ‘Columbia's Disruptor Records’.
