Gary Cherone was born on July 26, 1961 in Malden, Massachusetts. He grew up with four brothers, including his fraternal twin Greg. He attended Malden High School and sang with various local bands during his teenage years.
In 1979, Cherone formed a hard rock band called Adrenalin with his friends Paul Geary and Matt McKay. The group later changed their name to the Dream and recorded an independent EP a few years later.
